When Life Gets Hard · Part 1
You are not walking into tomorrow alone.
Life can feel unsettled when tomorrow asks us to step into something new: a new job, a new place, a new responsibility, a family change, a health concern, a financial pressure, or a decision we cannot avoid. The future is unfamiliar, and unfamiliar things can make tomorrow feel heavy before we even arrive there.
Israel stood near that kind of moment in Deuteronomy 31. The wilderness season was ending, and the promised land was ahead. For years, they had seen God lead, provide, correct, and preserve them. Now they were about to enter a future they had not yet experienced. The land was promised, but it was still unfamiliar.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:8, NIV
God Goes Before You
Moses does not tell Israel that they are strong enough to handle everything ahead. He does not say the next season will be easy. He gives them a greater comfort: the Lord Himself goes before them.
Tomorrow is not empty, and the future is not outside God’s reach. The road ahead may be new to His people, but it is not new to Him. God goes before us as the One who is already present in what we have not yet reached.
Many times, we want God to show us the whole road before we take the next step. But often, God gives us something better than complete information. He gives us His presence.
God Will Be With You There
“My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Exodus 33:14, NIV
God goes before His people, and God will be with His people. He is ahead of them, but He is not distant from them. He prepares the way, and He also walks with them as they enter it.
This matters when we are trying to move in alignment with God’s purpose and plan. We are asking Him to guide us into what is right before Him, help us take the next faithful step, and shape our lives according to His will.
God may not always be visible to us, and His work may not always be directly evident. But His promise gives us confidence that He is with His people, even before they fully understand the road ahead.
The Burden Is Not Yours to Carry Alone
“The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you.”
Deuteronomy 1:30, NIV
God’s presence does not mean tomorrow will have no pressure. Israel still had to move forward. The promised land was ahead, but every step would not be easy, and every obstacle would not disappear before they arrived.
Moses reminds them that the weight of the future does not rest on them alone. The God who goes before His people will help them, work for them, and fight for them. Their courage was not to come from their strength, numbers, or control, but from the Lord who had already carried them this far.
Some future seasons carry real weight. Some decisions affect many people. Some responsibilities feel larger than our strength. But if we are walking with God, tomorrow does not depend only on our wisdom, energy, or control.
Do Not Worry About Tomorrow
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
Matthew 6:34, NIV
Jesus said these words in the Sermon on the Mount while teaching His followers not to be consumed by anxiety over daily needs. He spoke about food, drink, clothing, and the concerns that fill ordinary human life. These were real needs, not imaginary worries.
Jesus did not tell them to stop worrying because life would never be difficult. He pointed them to the heavenly Father who knew what they needed. The answer to worry was trusting that tomorrow is not outside the Father’s care.
So pray honestly, ask for wisdom, and take the next faithful step. Step into tomorrow with the confidence that God has already gone before you. The future may be unfamiliar, but it is not outside His care. The road ahead may be hidden from you, but it is not hidden from Him.
God goes before His people, God will be with His people, and whatever tomorrow requires, He will not leave you to carry it alone. You are not walking into tomorrow alone.
