He knows your past, your present, and your next step

God Has Seen Your Past

God’s knowledge of you did not begin today. He has already seen the road you have walked. He knows the places where you felt unnoticed, the seasons where you quietly waited, and the moments when no one else fully understood what was happening in your life.

When Nathanael came to Jesus, Jesus said, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you” (John 1:48). Before Nathanael came near to Jesus, Jesus had already seen him. Before you knew Him, God already knew you by name.

God Cares for Your Present Need

God does not only know your past. He also knows your present need. He knows when you are tired, discouraged, confused, or weak. He knows when you need strength, rest, courage, or direction. He cares for you personally.

Elijah saw God’s power on Mount Carmel, but soon after, he was exhausted and discouraged under a broom tree. God gave him sleep, bread, and water. Then the angel said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you” (1 Kings 19:7). God is aware of your current needs, and He cares for you in the middle of them.

God Guides Your Next Step

Peter’s rescue from prison shows God’s care for the next step. Peter was chained between soldiers, guarded, and facing death. During the night, an angel appeared, light filled the cell, and Peter’s chains fell off.

But God did not only break the chains. The angel said, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals” (Acts 12:8). Peter was suddenly awakened and confused. He thought he was seeing a vision. Peter was often quick to act in the Gospels, but here God did not leave his next step to instinct. He guided him carefully. God cares not only about the major turning points of your life, but also about the small details needed for your next step.

What Does This Mean for You?

God says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). God saw Nathanael before he came. God cared for Elijah’s present need. God guided Peter’s next step. From the beginning, your life has never been outside His knowledge or His care.

He also knows you now. He knows where you have been, what you need, and how to lead you forward. His care may not remove the entire path at once, but it gives what you need for the next step. Take comfort in this truth and move with confidence.
